The weather looked good today so we headed to Emmett’s Classic Car Show on Route 2 in North Stonington. This was a first-time event and it was very well done. We were glad to see some friends after the long winter and enjoyed the complimentary hot dogs, drinks and snacks. Emmett did a great job setting this up and we think everyone had a good time. Hope they do this again in the future!
After two days of gloom and almost 4 inches of rain it was a small but intimate crowd at the first Bozrah Moose Lodge Cruise Night of 2025. The field was dry, the hot dogs were hot, the drinks were cold, and we had a good time as always!
We had picture-perfect weather tonight for the first 98.7 WNLC Ocean Beach Cruise Night of 2025. And we had a solid turnout of cars, trucks, motorcycles and spectators taking advantage of the beautiful weather. We know it’s New England but let’s hope this continues for the entire summer!
(Note – This is a continuation of the original ‘Cruise Nights at Village Pizza’ but since Village Pizza was sold, it’s now called Flemings Field.) The nice weather held up fine for the first Dream Machine Classics Cruise Night of 2025 at Flemings Field in Preston. A lot of cars and trucks come out and we all enjoyed food from Wicked Weiners, drinks from Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee and best of all, ice cream from Ra Ra’s. It was a great combination and we think everyone had a good time tonight.
It’s always tough for us when Hank’s rain date is the same as the Dream Machine Classics cruise but fortunately there are plenty of cars for both events and we split our photography duties accordingly. About 40 or 50 cars and trucks came through Hank’s tonight and we heard everyone there had a good night too. We want to thank Lucien for the great photos and let’s hope both events run on their original scheduled dates for the rest of the summer!
Well, we certainly made the right decision by holding our cruise night tonight; despite the iffy forecast the weather couldn’t have been better. We did get more cars and trucks than we expected and we think everyone had a good time. We want to thank everyone who came out to join us and a big thanks to the winner of the 50/50 who donated it back to the club for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center!
It was clear but very windy at the 98.7 WNLC Ocean Beach Cruise Night tonight. We had a respectable number of cars, trucks and motorcycles come out but many left early because of the wind. We had several local members of the Connecticut Triumph Register join us for a meet-and-greet tonight and it was great to see some British beauties at the cruise. Remember, there is no cruise night next Monday on Memorial Day – we’re looking forward to seeing everyone back here on June 2nd!
After Thursday’s Nor’easter and the cold winds this week we headed to the Classic Car & Truck Show at the Holy New Martyrs Orthodox Church in Norwich to check out the scene. We also enjoyed their great food and baked goods, some of which made its way home with us! Congrats to our friends from Dream Machines Classics who won trophies in three classes. Winning photos are annotated.
June 2025
Last week they got the forecast wrong and it rained, this week they got it wrong and it was nice. We guess it all evens out in the end and we’re glad tonight it was in our favor. We’re still waiting for ‘real summer’ but it’s bound to come sooner or later. We hope to see everyone here when it does!
In conjunction with Juneteenth, Mohegan Sun held their annual Employee Car Show on the Sun Patio tonight. Our intrepid photographer was honored to help judge the show along with three other local enthusiasts. From Coca-Cola the grand prize for Best in Show was 4 tickets to August’s NASCAR Coca-Cola 400 at Daytona including round-trip airfare and $2,000 cash for hotels, food, etc. There were countless giveaways, free food and drink, a DJ spinning tunes, karaoke, and a raucous good time for all! The photos are annotated and congratulations to our friend and fellow cruiser Kathy who’s 1949 Chevy Pickup was judged ‘Best in Show’ tonight!
The ‘curse’ is finally broken! After about 3 months of rainy Saturdays we finally had a beautiful summer night for our second SCMC cruise night of 2025. We had about 50 cars and trucks join us tonight and we hope everyone had as much fun as we did. We did our raffles near the end of the cruise for a change and that seemed to work out well. And, best of all, our 50/50 winner donated part of her winnings back the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. We want to thank everyone who joined us tonight and let’s hope we have the same weather for next month’s cruise!
We woke up to rain and wet roads here in Montville but some folks found it dry and headed to Central Auto Group’s Annual Car Show in Plainfield this morning. It was a rather small turnout of mostly late-models and it was very warm with very little shade. Our thanks go out to Lucien who braved the heat and humidity to take these photos!
We always remember the old axiom “It’s always cooler at the beach”. It was 92 degrees when we left Montville for the cruise but only 84 with a nice breeze at Ocean Beach. The beach was packed and everyone enjoyed the beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles that came to the cruise. We waited 7 weeks for ‘summer’ and tonight it was finally here!
Today was by far the biggest cruise yet at the Sprague Rod & Gun Club. Lots of folks took advantage of the nice weather and as always the food was great. We enjoyed the shade of the big oak tree and we saw fellow enthusiasts we hadn’t seen since last year. And a big thanks to all the hard working volunteers who keep this event going. All in all it was a great day!
Another good turnout at the beach tonight as it was at least 10 degrees cooler than inland and with a nice sea breeze too. At one point we thought we should have brought a sweatshirt! Lots of folks came out to enjoy the cruise, the rides, and the ice cream. We’ll be here again next Monday (after the holiday weekend) so come on down and enjoy the “Prettiest place in New London”. (Speedbowl Kurt quote)
July 2025
The radar showed lots of storms and rain to our west and north but the sun was shining and it was cool and beautiful at the beach tonight. The threat of rain kept quite a few cars and trucks away but those who are familiar with New London know that the sea breeze often keeps storms away too. Those that did come out tonight had a great time. Let’s hope next Monday is the same but without the threat of rain!
